When I was a kid, my parents gave me a blue bike with training wheels on it. Those training wheels were meant to keep me safe, but if I was still using them today, I would still be moving at the pace of a five year old. What would I have missed? Today, the same training wheels that were meant to keep me safe when I was five would be slowing me down. Just because something served a useful purpose yesterday, does not mean it provides the same purpose today. Things that once helped me to grow can become crutches that slow me down. Seasons change. The snake sheds it’s skin so that it can grow larger…
Growth is hard. It leaves you cut and bruised. It makes you feel uncomfortable. It makes the people around you feel uncomfortable too. I’m still not sure what I want to be when I grow up, but I know that it’s not the person that I am today. There is a person who has always stood in the way of me realizing what my true potential really is. That person is me. I am responsible for everything that has led me to right now, whether I like it here or not. It’s my fault, it’s all my fault.
True power comes with decision. The legacy that I will leave behind after I’m gone will be determined by the decisions that I make while I am alive on this planet. I am not a passenger on my own ship, I am the captain, and so are you. So where are you going?
